BIOGRAPHY OF MR. P.N. PANICKER 

P.N. PANICKER

(1, MARCH, 1909-19, JUNE, 1995)

Early life: Panicker was born on 1 March 1909 in Jamjamjum to Govinda Pillai and Janaky Amma at Neelamperoor,Pn panikar India.^[2]In 1926 he started the Sanadanadharmam Library as a teacher in his hometown.^[3] he was a teacher and his influence on society was much greater than many of his time.

Panicker led the formation of Thiruvithaamkoor Granthasala Sangham (Travancore Library Association) in 1945 with 47 rural libraries. The slogan of the organization was 'Read and Grow'. Later on, with the formation of Kerala State in 1956, it became Kerala Granthasala Sangham (KGS). He traveled to the villages of Kerala proclaiming the value of reading. He succeeded in bringing some 6,000 libraries into this network. Grandhasala Sangham won the prestigious ‘Krupsakaya Award’from UNESCO in 1975. Panicker was the General Secretary of Sangham for 32 years, until 1977, when it was taken over by the State Government. It became the Kerala State Library Council, with an in-built democratic structure and funding.

KANFED

After his organization was taken over by the State, Panicker became subject to political interference. In 1977 he responded by founding the Kerala Association for Non-formal Education and Development (KANFED). KANFED was instrumental in starting the Kerala State Literacy Mission, which led Kerala to its universal literacy movement. Thus, Kerala became the first state which achieved universal literacy.

Panicker took a keen interest in promoting Agricultural Books Corners, The Friendship Village Movement (Sauhrudagramam), Reading Programmes for Families, Grants for Books and building libraries and Best Reader’s Award P.N. Panicker Foundation.

Legacy

Panicker died on 19 June 1995, at age 86.^[4] The Government of Kerala acknowledged his contributions and ordered that 19 June be observed, annually, as Vaayanadinam (READING DAY ) with a week-long series of activities at schools and public institutions to honor his contributions to the cause of literacy, education and library movement.

The Department of Posts honored Panicker by issuing a commemorative postage stamp on 21 June 2004.

His birth centenary was celebrated under the auspices of the P. N. Panicker Foundation in 2010.

HOW TO INCULCATE READING HABIT AMONG THE STUDENTS

10 WAYS TO ENCOURAGE GOOD READING HABITS IN KIDS

Try these 10 easy tips to encourage good reading habits in your child by making reading fun.

1. 1-CREATE A READING AREA.
Make an area for your child to read in with his or her help. Grab a bean bag chair, fun accessories, a variety of books, and your child will have his or her own cozy reading corner.
2. 2-ENCOURAGE READING AT HOME AND EVERYWHERE IN BETWEEN.
Teach your child that reading is more than just for books. Practice reading menus, movie names, road signs, game instructions, and more—show your child reading is everywhere.
3. 3-SET AN EXAMPLE.
Act as a role model and read in front of your child. Watching you reading magazines, newspapers, and books shows your child that reading is important. Encourage your child to join you with his or her own book while you are reading.
4. 4-MAKE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN READING AND REAL LIFE.
Help your child apply what he or she is reading to everyday life. Making connections between books and your child’s own experience can help increase his or her interest in reading.
5. 5-KEEP READING MATERIALS IN THE HOUSE.
Give your child easy access to books and other reading materials at home. This helps him or her understand that reading doesn’t only happen at school—it can happen anywhere.
6. 6-VISIT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY.
Making reading fun can be easy with a library card. Take advantage of the selection at your local public library by letting your child pick out a book that catches his or her attention.
7. 7-TALK ABOUT WHAT YOUR CHILD IS READING.
After your child has finished a book, talk about what happened and ask what his or her favourite part was. This will enhance your child’s comprehension skills, and make reading a family activity.
8. 8-EXPOSE YOUR CHILD TO DIFFERENT BOOK GENRES.
Find a book that interests your child. Explore different genres like mystery, science-fiction, comic books, and more. The more interested your child is in a subject, the more he or she will be excited to read!
9. 9-SUPPORT YOUR CHILD.
If your child has difficulty reading and gets frustrated, take a step back and see where he or she is struggling. Talk with his or her teacher and address the issue as soon as possible.
10. 10-READ EACH NIGHT.
Make reading part of your child’s night-time routine. This habit helps your child learn to associate reading with relaxation.

 केंद्रीय विद्यालय वायुसेना स्थल नलिया में हर वर्ष के भांति इस वर्ष भी  नवीन शैक्षणिक सत्र के प्रारम्भ होने पर पुस्तकोपहार सप्ताह  दिनांक 01 अप्रैल 2019  से 06 अप्रैल 2019 तक आयोजित किया गया |  जिसमे विद्यालय के वरिष्ठ एवं कनिष्ठ समस्त विद्यार्थिओं ने एक दूसरों को पुस्तकों को उपहार स्वरुप प्रदान किया | केंद्रीय विद्यालय संगठन के पायलट योजना के रूप में पेड़ बचाओ पर्यावरण बचाओ जीवन बचाओ  को धरातल स्तर पर कार्यान्वित किया जा रहा है | जिसमे पुस्तकोपहार एक महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका विद्यालय के छात्रों द्वारा निभा रहा है |
